General Health Exams

Regular health exams

Regular health checks can help to identify early warning signs of disease or illness. Heart disease, diabetes and some cancers can often be picked up in their early stages, when treatment may be more successful.

When you have a check, your doctor will talk to you about your medical history, your family’s history of disease and your lifestyle. Your diet, weight, how much you exercise, and whether or not you smoke and drink alcohol or take illegal drugs will also be discussed.

If you have high-risk factors, such as a family history of a condition, it may be more likely that you will develop a particular disease. Regular checks may help your doctor pick up early warning signs.

If you have a high risk of a particular health condition, your doctor may recommend more frequent health checks at an earlier age.

These are some common tests, but your doctor may recommend others according to your situation.

  • Blood pressure – have your blood pressure checked every 2 years if it is normal, you are aged under 40 years, and there is no family history of high blood pressure. Have it checked yearly if you are over 40, your blood pressure is on the high side, or you have a personal or family history of high blood pressure, stroke or heart attack. Be advised by your doctor.
  • Blood tests – check cholesterol levels and blood triglycerides, among other things. High levels may indicate an increased risk of various health problems, including heart disease. If you are over 45, you should have these blood tests once every 5 years. If you are at high risk of heart disease and have a family history, you should be tested every year from the age of 40.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) – this is a non-invasive and painless medical test that detects cardiac (heart) abnormalities by measuring the electrical activity generated by the heart as it contracts.
  • Obesity tests – being overweight is a significant risk factor for many health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Ask your doctor to check your body mass index (BMI) and waist measurement every 2 years. If you are at a higher risk, you should have your weight checked more frequently.

School & Sports Physicals

What is a sports physical/ School physical?

Also called pre-participation physical examinations (PPE), sports physicals are usually a part of registering youths for participation in a sport. Organizers generally require an evaluation for children to participate. Regulations vary according to the rules of the respective state, school or a sport's governing body.

A PPE helps to assure that the athlete is healthy and physically ready for their chosen activity such as baseball, football, soccer or track. Before registering, check with the organizers about their eligibility requirements. The purpose of the PPE is to help minimize the risk of injury while your child plays.

A sports physical exam is not intended to replace a comprehensive annual wellness exam and other screenings.

A school physical exam assesses your child’s overall health and development and serves as an annual check-in with their pediatrician. During this exam, the pediatrician will evaluate the child’s physical and mental readiness for school. This exam can check for any new or existing health issues, plus any concerns with development that may impact whether they need additional physical, behavioral and/or learning interventions or support in the school environment.

When does my child need a physical to start school?

It’s a good rule of thumb to see your child’s pediatrician every year before school starts. However, many states require school physicals by law, depending on a child’s age. Check with your child’s school district about when and how often they need to complete a school physical. Your child also will need to receive immunizations required by law to attend school. The school physical is a great time to ensure they are up to date on vaccinations.

What happens during a school physical exam?

  • Review of your child’s medical history and any existing chronic conditions, like asthma
  • Check height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and other vital signs
  • Mental health screening

Patients must bring any forms required by your school or organization. You and your parent/guardian must fill in the necessary fields before your visit.

Other information to collect before your visit:

  • Medical history including allergies and immunizations

Cash pay $50

DOT Physicals

A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical is a physical exam that is required of people who drive commercial vehicles. The point of a DOT physical is to make sure that people who are driving commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), such as large trucks and buses, are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires this testing for the safety of the public.

Who Needs a DOT Physical?

You will need a DOT physical if you:

  • Drive a vehicle designed to carry more than 15 people.
  • Are paid to drive a vehicle designed to carry more than eight people.
  • Carry hazardous material in your vehicle that requires your vehicle to have a placard.
  • Drive a vehicle on the interstate with a gross combination weight rating, gross vehicle weight rating, or gross combination weight of 10,000 pounds (5 tons) or more.

How to Get a DOT Medical Card

If you pass your DOT physical, you’ll receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC), also known as your DOT medical card. This certification, along with your commercial driver’s license (CDL), allows you to drive a commercial vehicle for 2 years, provided you have no underlying physical or mental condition that requires testing more often.

Medical conditions that require you to have an annual DOT physical include:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure(hypertension)
  • Heart disease

If you have a medical condition such as very high blood pressure, you may be required to have physicals every 3 months while you undergo medical treatment to correct or manage the issue.

The health care provider who performs your DOT physical will ask you detailed questions about your medical history, including:

  • If you've ever had surgery
  • Any medicines you're taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines
  • Any health problems you've had
  • If you use tobacco, alcohol, or illegal substances
  • If you've ever failed a drug test

About Respiratory Illnesses: COVID-19, RSV infection, influenza& STREP

While impacting people of all ages, the viruses causing COVID-19, RSV disease, and the flu render the following populations especially vulnerable: children, the elderly, those who are immunocompromised, and people with underlying conditions. Coughing, sneezing, and potential contact with virus-contaminated surfaces all contribute to virus spread.

                      Look for these Symptoms

Often spiking during the winter season, COVID-19, RSV disease and the flu are contagious respiratory illnesses that share many of the same symptoms. The three illnesses could possibly seasonally surge, posing a triple threat to you and your family.

We offer the  Multiplex Test  PCR

A PCR multiplex test will empower your provider to detect and differentiate between COVID-19, Flu A, Flu B, and RSV with a single nasal swab.

Group A Streptococcus  with a single throat swab.
